Choose this option if you want to make a complaint that the privacy of an individual who has featured in a TV or radio programme has been breached by that programme. ('Privacy' here does not apply to the viewer or listener, only to a person appearing in a programme.)

You need to submit your complaint to the BSA within 20 working days of the broadcast.

If you are complaining about privacy AND another standard such as fairness, submit your formal complaint to the broadcaster instead.

In making a privacy complaint, the first thing is to look at the guidance section on privacy (go to Guidance: Privacy) and also to read the related practice note: Privacy Principles – Practice Note June 2010.

You can lodge your complaint in writing or online (see below) or you can email the BSA at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it., Attention: Legal Manager, explaining that you are complaining about a breach of privacy on its own.


  • Making your complaint in writing

    You can make a complaint to the BSA in writing by printing out the BSA Privacy Complaint form and posting it to the BSA at PO Box 9213, Marion Square, Wellington 6141.

  • Making your complaint online

    You can use the BSA's online form to make a complaint that the privacy of an individual has been breached by a TV or radio programme. (Do NOT use this form for any other type of complaint.)

    You are making a complaint ONLY about a breach of privacy on a radio or television programme. You can lodge a complaint online by filling in the form below, saying, I wish to make a formal complaint about the following programme.
