I can't believe it that in 2017 you can still lose your job at Massey because you are gay! What, are they living in the 1970s??? How disgraceful.

Gosh! This is alarming! If there is a whiff of homophobia at Massey, a thorough investigation should be conducted, and the Rainbow Tick accreditation for Massey should be put on hold.

I have followed this up some friends at Massey. It seems that this was not the result of a reduction of positions as since the gay staff have been purged new staff have been appointed by the same manager. It doesn't seems to have anything to do with government funding. Interesting that all these new staff are straight. It seems that Massey is reverting to the old "Whites only", this time to a policy of "Heterosexuals only". What is alarming is that this is happening while Massey is applying for Rainbow Tick accreditation.

In this day and age, what can't you find with a simple Google search?

I understand that nowadays people (including me) use facebook etc. personalised page much more, and indeed, I personally felt the drop of users from 2012. Thus gaynz.com indeed will be difficult to keep operating in the currently existing way.

However, there are many aspects and information which personalised page cannot provide: anonymous discussion in a forum (being anonymous is particularly important when a person start to explore his/her new LGBT aspects), being a directory of local support networks, updates regarding LGBT events and news, classfications targeting at LGBT community etc.

If we want such information after the closure of gaynz.com, where should we find such information (particularly at one site)?

You could ask the Tertiary Education Union http://teu.ac.nz/branches/universities/massey/

The LGBT staff I know at universities say there are lots of staff cuts and changes every year. Some staff are safer than others, depending on their roles and if they teach or support popular subjects.  Some blame government cuts, and its probably all universities not just Massey.
