Out Takes preview: Gayby

Gayby has been selected as the opening night men’s film for the 2013 Out Takes festival. Watch its trailer here, as we begin highlighting some of the flicks the festival has selected.

Based on the award-winning short of the same name, this perfectly told New York tale follows the travails of Matt (gay) and Jenn (straight). Best friends from college now in their thirties, they decide to fulfil a youthful promise to have a child together... the old fashioned way. Can they navigate the unexpected snags they hit as they attempt to get their careers and dating lives back on track in preparation for parenthood? An irreverent comedy about friendship, growing older, sex, loneliness, and the family you choose.

“Hilariously bitchy but sweet comedy.” –Village Voice

“Gayby doesn’t break a lot of new ground in the rom-com or parenthood fields, but its agreeable balance of humour and sentiment makes it worth adopting,” the Hollywood Reporter.

“Inoffensive and low-key, ‘Gayby’ is too diffuse to have much pop when it comes to the topics at hand: love and friendship, and how unconventional modern permutations might help rewrite the script of romance,” NY Times.

“The comedy ‘Gayby’ has a grasp of friendships, relationships and blurred boundaries that feels endearingly eternal in its humour about sexual roles and romantic expectations,” LA Times.
