NZ On Screen has pulled a collection of lgbt films out from its treasure trove and placed them online for you all to enjoy, to mark Auckland Pride Festival.

The curated collection of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender themed titles features several significant gay dramas, including A Death in the Family, made by Peter Wells and Stewart Main in 1986, and acknowledged as New Zealand’s first drama about AIDS.

Also written by Wells, the one-off drama Jewel’s Darl, from the About Face series, is another title in the collection. Made in 1985, and starring actress turned politician Georgina Beyer, the acclaimed drama is still held up as one of our most significant lgbt productions.

The 1993 lesbian-themed short film Peach is another title in the collection. It features an early screen appearance from Lucy Lawless.

Georgina Beyer also features in the collection in the biographical documentary Georgie Girl, directed by award-winning documentary maker Annie Goldson.

The late Carmen, one of New Zealand’s earliest transgender personalities, features in another bio documentary in the lgbt collection, made by Geoff Steven in 1989.
