Oscars Wrap

Jared Leto has won an Oscar for his portrayal of a transgender woman in the film Dallas Buyers Club and dedicated it to "the 36 million people who have ever lost the battle to AIDS".

He added it was for “those of you who out there who have ever felt injustice because of who you are or who you love”.

The actor also paid tribute to his mother, who he brought along.

See his full speech in the video below

While many critics have raved about his performance in the film, it has also been divisive, with some members of the transgender community strongly feeling a transgender person should have played the role.

There has also been debate about whether Leto was channelling Jesus on the red carpet:

Co-star Matthew McConaughey won Best Actor for his role as an initially transphobic and homophobic straight man in the film. When he is diagnosed HIV positive he leads a bunch of misfits in a crusade to buy life-saving anti-viral medication. His speech was full of thanks to God and his family, plus his thoughts on positive thinking, with no mention of people with HIV/AIDS.

Dallas Buyers Club
also won an award for make-up.

Ellen DeGeneres hosted the Oscars for the second time and opened sayong she was "honoured and flattered" to be back. She mostly stuck to her tame brand of humour - although she ruffled Liza Minnelli's feathers by describing her as "the most amazing Liza Minnelli impersonator" she'd ever seen, topping it off with "good job sir". Liza was not amused:

However Liza seemed to get over it, happily posing for a selfie with Ellen later on when she told her she was a big fan.

Ellen had a massive amount of fun. She ordered pizza and had a delivery guy share it around among the megastars. She also organised the most epic Oscars photo ever, which broke records and actually briefly "broke Twitter":

But poor Liza was too short to get in it! (In blue at the back).

Adorable klutz Jennifer Lawrence was fine with DeGeneres mocking her for falling over at last year's Oscars, and again on the red carpet today. "If you win tonight I think we should bring you the Oscar," DeGeneres joked.

One person who made it down the red carpet just fine is one of our favourite people, gay actor George Takei, who took a moment away from being King of the Internet to be at the Oscars with partner Brad Altman.

Memorable musical moments of the night included a somehow ageless Bette Midler doing Wind Beneath My Wings, leaving Takei telling his social media empire she is a "national treasure". Pink also glammed up, in a ruby red dress, to sing Somewhere Over the Rainbow, in a tribute to The Wizard of Oz:
