Amnesty International is hosting free Auckland and Wellington screenings of a documentary about people forced to seek refuge due to who they are – which will be followed by talks by two such people who have since found homes in New Zealand.

Last Chance tells the stories of five LGBTI refugees face as they escape some of the most fiercely homophobic countries in the world. The ordeals of Carlos, Jennifer, Zaki, Alvaro, and Trudi demonstrate the issues that minorities face when seeking asylum from the beginning of their journeys to their final destination, in this case, Canada.

Amnesty International has joined with the High Commission of Canada to show the film in Wellington on 7 October and Auckland on 14 October.

After the film there will be a panel discussion, where Abraham Naim from the Maldives and Eliana Rubashkyn from Colombia, will tell their own stories.

RSVPs are essential for the free events – email events.manager@amnesty.org.nz
