Visiting Service - Client Story

24/11/2016 We received this lovely message from one of our Accredited Visiting Services' Clients and I wanted to share with you:

 “I am enjoying the visits Miss B  is keen, a delightful girl, she’s only 21 but I love being with younger people. My visitors before were also lovely. Actually Age Concern has saved my life. I needed someone to just walk beside me during a very difficult time and just that has given me so much confidence. I really missed having a visitor so very much while I was waiting for a new one and this new visitor really is helping me so much.

A Counselling Service Client Story

My little say on my counselling experience with  Age Concern Counties Manukau Inc.

'I arrived at the councilling office at the end of my tether...feeling depressed, anxious and almost giving up on life due to my situation at home.  I am a divorcee and retired. 

My daughter had come back to roost, including two teenage grandchildren, not to mention all their furniture and belongings, including cat!  I already had a adult member of the family living with me which I coped with, but was hard as he had been out of work for almost 3 years.

The festive season is anticipated as a time of joy, merriment and companionship.   People are able to take time away from their work environment and spend it with their families and friends.   It is seen as an opportunity to relax away from our daily stresses.  It can also be a time to reflect on the year that is coming to a close and look forward to new challenges and opportunities that the new year might bring.

But this is not necessarily true for everyone.

SCAM alert

In the Auckland area calls from people pretending to be from the Auckland City Council and requiring the elderly to install heat pumps and insulation into their homes. This scam happened a couple of months ago, and it's active unfortunately again. Please share this with the local Auckland age concern offices.  Here is the old article which was released when it first happened, might provide more clarity.

  • NZ Gun Licence
  • Current photo authenticated by a Justice of the Peace (JP)

The JP service is another option for those customers who don’t have current photo ID. 

The Auckland JP Service operates a walk-in service at 55 locations across Auckland.
