Safest and best place to live in NZ

im wondering since i haven't traveled allot around new zealand what is the safest and best place to live in new zealand

That depends on what you like and who you are. best is not necessarily = safest. 

If you lived alone and stayed in your home all the time, provided you didn't live in Christchurch or near a busy road, then you would probably be "safe" but unless you were a totally dedicated gamer with full online access that might not be much fun.

Crime statistics show that street violence is a bigger risk if you're a man under 30 years of age and if you go out at night. The riskiest age is probably 15 - 24.

I enjoy Wellington and its culture and small but friendly range of venues and entertainment outlets. Some of my Auckland friends say it's too small and Auckland if better.  I agree that Auckland is bigger with more options but it also feels riskier, but maybe that's the visitor vibe?
