The body which oversees the Outgames sporting, human rights and sporting festivals in the Asia Pacific region, GLISA AP, is convening "a meeting of its member organizations this evening to brief members on recent developments, explain the options as they currently stand and make a decision on whether or not GLISA AP will formally continue to support an event being held in Auckland in February" according to spokesperson Graham Lovelock.
In mid July the entire board of Auckland Outgames 2016 Inc. resigned, later explaining that potential sponsors were not keen on the games being run in conjunction with the Auckland Pride Festival, and they had recommended the dates be changed. GLISA did not approve a delay of six months in staging the games (see following news story) and the Board has just called for the Auckland organisation to be formally would up.
Meanwhile, a small group of the organising committee, which was responsible to the board, has continued to press for the Outgames to go ahead, on a more community-based scale, in February as planned.
