Coming Out Questions/Discussion/Experiences / sexual orientation
« Last post by Apollo on 10 Feb 15, 11:24:am »
I am using this forum to hopefully get some advice or comments on my situation.

I am a middle aged straight  male who has just been through a mid life crisis with regards to my sexual orientation.

For a number of years now I have had an attraction to young guys around the 20s age group and have admired their beautiful bodies. These feelings intensified so much so that they had become an obsession.  To release the tension I regularly visited gay websites.

I found that the latent homosexual tendencies that I had experienced now surfaced and I needed to face up to fact of my true sexual orientation- that I am  really gay.
Since accepting this fact I have been feeling relieved and  a weight  has been lifted from my shoulders.
I am really happy with myself and wonder why I didn't accept the situation earlier.

I realise that I have only started to open the closet door and that there are still a lot of issues to be dealt with.

I now want to move on from being a passive participant to that of an active one in male to male contact.
My problem now is how do I become involved.?I don't have any contact with gay males so how do I meet them.?

Do I do the rounds of gay bars etc or join a gay dating website?

I would really appreciate some guidance in this area

Just checked this out with NZAF's health services. They say: Results are not given on the day; these are given at face to face or phone appointments throughout the following week.

Thank you for that information.

That is good practice.

Do the people who get tested at the tent get their results then and there in the middle of a carnival?

Almost every other social event is straight focused.

Yep, along with nearly every advert, tv show, love song, institution - In the main, life is a very heterosexual-normative place.

Boo Hoo there was one event (out of 1000s of others) where a few straights felt unwelcome at how discriminatory- Not!

Almost every other social event is straight focused. I prefer "rainbow" events to be promoted for LGBTIQ community, and straight people only to be invited as the partner or friend of an LGBTIQ person attending.

I've been at gay bars where straights took over and the space became about them not us.

They did not enquire because the Pink Ball was promoted as a Rainbow event and targeted specifically the rainbow community.  Hence the point I make
