With the trailer for the new Stonewall film sparking massive debate because its central character is a gay white man, here’s a feature-length documentary on revolutionary trans-activist, Marsha "Pay it No Mind" Johnson who was a Stonewall instigator.

Director: Stonewall film honours real activists

While much of what happened at the Stonewall Riot is hazy and accounts vary among witnesses, she is acknowledged as the first person to throw a brick.

This interview was carried out just two days before her mysterious death in July 1992.

Her body was found floating in the Hudson River shortly after the 1992 Pride March, and her death was initially declared a suicide. However there are claims she had earlier been harassed near the spot where her body was found.

It was only in 2012 that New York police re-opened the case as a possible homicide.
