OUSA Diversity Week Guide

Otago University Students Association Diversity Week is an annual event aimed at raising awareness and visibility of sex, sexuality and gender diversity on campus. Presented by the OUSA Queer Support Coordinator and UniQ, it runs from the 23rd to the 27th of March.

Monday 23 March

Everything and Everyone Market

Noon – 2pm, Link Courtyard (Union Hall if raining)
Everything and Everyone Market is an arts, crafts, self-publishing and everything else market. A chance for people in the Queer Community to sell or exchange their goods. Come check it out! Otago University Debating Society Debate

Otago University Debating Society Debate
5pm, in the Union Main Common Room
Topic of debate: This House believes that pride events should focus on celebration rather than highlighting issues that still exist.

Tuesday 24 March

Seminar on the Wellbeing of Queer and Questioning Students on campus lead by Dr. Melanie Beres.
1pm – 3pm, St. David Lecture Theatre 1
Campus Climate for LGBTAQ Students at the University of Otago. Dr. Melanie Beres, Senior Lecturer in Sociology, will present the preliminary findings of a 2014 survey investigating the experiences of LGBTAQ students on campus.

50 Shades of Not Okay
7.30pm – 9.30pm, Otago Room of the OUSA Recreation Centre
A consent and safety focused BDSM 101.A brief introduction to the wonderful world of BDSM, with a particular focus on kink-specific consent and safety issues (and why everyone's favourite Valentine's Day movie is a bit rubbish). Koha, proceeds to Rape Crisis Dunedin.

Wednesday 25 March

Poetry Slam Workshop
Otago Room of the OUSA Recreation Centre
An introduction to the writing and performance of slam poetry, led by Kerry and Toa. Toa describes themself as a stray fledgling who loves to create, while Kerry spends too much time cultivating an air of vaguely threatening mystique to describe themself at all.

Thursday 26 March

The Queerest Tea Party

12pm – 2pm, Link Courtyard
FREE tea, coffee and sweet treats for all! We are also running The Queerest Cupcake Bake-Off. Winners will be announced during the Queerest Tea Party. To enter the competition please email q.support@ousa.org.nz.

UniQ Quiz Night
7.30pm, Union Main Common Room
$20 per team, maximum of 6 people in a team. Register your team from 7.30pm, quiz starting at 8pm.

Friday 27 March

Flannel Friday

All day, everywhere!
Wear a flannel shirt to show your support for sex, sexuality and gender diversity!
