With Easter Trading Hours, there are limits on when some of our venues can open this weekend. However there is enough happening, in Auckland, Wellington and new hotspot Rotorua anyway, if you want to work off some of that chocolate on a dancefloor.

Family's Easter hours
The fun kicks off in Auckland on Thursday with a special Easter edition of Encore Cabaret’s screenings of RuPaul’s Drag Race. Hostess Tess Tickle says she will be channelling “Lady Bunny”. Happy hour is from 7.30pm, with the show screening from 8.30pm. “Friday's a holidays so no excuses!” Tess says.

Ponsonby Rd’s Shanghai Lil’s will help you wind down into the long weekend with Easter Jazz from 8pm Thursday.

Auckland’s gay nightclub Family Bar will be open as much as it possibly can be this long weekend, with a special show featuring hot oiled bunny boys at midnight on Easter Sunday till the wee hours on Monday morning. Miss Ribena promises it will be G.A.Y. Family will be open till midnight Thursday, from midday till midnight on Saturday, and for four hours from when the clock strikes midnight on Sunday, till 4am Monday morning.

The capital’s S&M’s has a big evening planned for Thursday: It’s comedy night downstairs from 7pm, Mr Gay Wellington "Meet The Contestants" from 8pm, followed by Karaoke, before the midnight closure. It will be back open from midnight on Friday for a few hours, closes at midnight on Saturday, then will be back to normal on Monday.

The competition will be held in Ivy’s newly refurbished event area which manager Steven says “means a greater view and enjoyable experience for everyone that comes along”.

Christchurch’s Menfriends will be open all weekend, with a Sleaze Party on Saturday night through til 4am.

If you prefer the outdoors, Christchurch’s LAMBDA trampers are heading for a beautiful walk through the Nina Valley on Sunday.
