The sun will be out and the Wellington wind will be mercifully light for Wednesday’s Celebration Rally for Marriage Equality in the capital, ahead of the expected reading of Louisa Wall’s marriage equality Bill at Parliament.

A high of 13 degrees is forecast and the skies will be clear, and all supporters of equal marriage rights for same-sex couples are being welcomed with open arms to meet at Civic Square at midday on Wednesday for what organisers LegaliseLove say will be a celebration march to Parliament, where speeches will be held at 1PM.

The Bill’s author Louisa Wall, National MP Tau Henare and Reverend Margaret Mayman from St Andrews on the Terrace are among those who will address the gathered crowd.

“We want to see as many people there as possible on the day where the first reading of Louisa Wall's Bill should take place,” LegaliseLove says.

“Let's welcome the Bill into Parliament and celebrate the opportunity New Zealand has been given to take a step towards greater equality! This is an issue that affects all New Zealanders, so come along regardless of your sexual orientation or gender identity!”

Colour and creativity are encouraged, with rainbow coloured outfits and wedding attire among the ideas being thrown around. is keen to see some creative and fun signs too (like the one on the right), check out some of our favourites here if you are after some ideas!

The Bill is due to be read in Parliament any time from 4.30Pm till 10.30PM tomorrow and if you can’t be at the rally, or at Parliament, we’ve got you covered – our team will provide live rolling coverage throughout the day as the marriage equality bill warms up to leap its first hurdle. staff - 28th August 2012
