Update on Archives New Zealand’s Christchurch Office
The public reading room of Archives New Zealand's Christchurch office is open. The opening hours are currently 9.30am to 1.00pm, Monday to Friday, with last orders at 12.30pm.
Before you plan a visit there are several important things to know.
Large parts of our holdings are still inaccessible due to earthquake damage to our mobile shelving; however some previously trapped archives are now accessible again. Please continue to email (firstname.lastname@example.org) or ring us (03 377 0760) before visiting, to find out whether the items you would like to see are retrievable.
In the process of repairing our shelving, some of our records have been moved to offsite storage. While they are accessible, access is subject to ten days’ notice and a payment of $10.50 per box involved.
All other accessible records remain free of charge for viewing in the reading room.
