Interested in research? Introductory and specialist tours with Turnbull Library staff are available now. Want to explore the redeveloped building and our new programmes? Our Te Ahumairangi and schools tours are available from the end of November.

Te Ahumairangi

Te Ahumairangi is the sacred mountain of Wellington’s Mana Whenua, and they have given its name to the ground floor of the National Library.

Whether you’ve used the Library for years or are coming here for the first time, this tour will offer you something new.

  • Find out how to use the Library’s digital collections, and find your own story there

For individuals or groups less than five. Tours are available on Tuesdays at 11am, Thursdays at 2pm, and Saturdays at both 11am and 2pm.

Schools Tour

Students will discover the Library’s role, the treasures it collects, and the technologies it uses to manage the collections.

  • Younger students will be introduced to the ground floor spaces and the digital collections. They’ll hear stories of Te Ahumairangi and its environment, and participate in activities and games.
  • Older students will learn about researching in the library, covering catalogues and online databases, how to access primary resources on site and online, and get a demonstration of access microfilm and microfiche material.
  • Curriculum-based programmes are available on request.
  • See the latest exhibition in the Turnbull and Ground Floor Galleries.
