Find out more about the Library’s Statement of Intent

This is a site for anyone with an interest in New Zealand – for researchers, teachers, students, librarians and information managers, publishers, creators and especially for those interested in our stories.

Te Kaupapa Mahi Tahi – A Plan For Partnership

The Library is committed to the Māori Language Strategy, the goals of which include 'strengthening language skills' by 'fostering opportunities and outlets for people to use their Māori language skills.'

The Library chose to interweave languages on each page, not only to support these goals, but also to increase awareness for those who do not speak te reo Māori. This can be seen in the summaries on each page that are in both English and te reo Māori.

We are working towards creating a fully bilingual site, writing and translating full-page content progressively. The site is designed so that we can implement fully bilingual navigation and functionality once a critical mass of content is available in both languages.

Usability

This website has a strong focus on user-centred design. This means that the Library regularly spends time with website visitors to understand how we can improve the site. You may have been asked to complete our website survey, which asks a random selection of visitors to evaluate the site. If you have any comments you can also complete our feedback form.
