Doing Your Own Research

Archives are fascinating and challenging resources. Archives New Zealand endeavours to provide information to researchers about how to use our archives, and advice for researchers visiting our reading rooms.
Here we give you information and advise on -

This advice will enable you to maximise your time and energies, whether you are ordering records at an Archives New Zealand office, or using our services from home.

Advice on what you should consider, bring and look at before you visit our Reading Rooms, information about how we provide access and the on-line finding aid Archway are all essential pieces information we provide to assist researchers.

We also describe how the reading rooms work, how we can help you when you visit as well as an explanation of the Archival system used to describe records, and how to use contextual information to find records in Archway.
If you have any further questions please consult our Research Guides or contact us.
