John Roberts is the acting Chief Archivist and the General Manager of Archives New Zealand, Department of Internal Affairs. Working for Archives in a wide range of roles since 1990 John has more recently been part of the senior management team as Group Manager Archives Management and acting Group Manager Government Recordkeeping.
He holds a Masters of Art from Victoria University, and a Masters in Information Management and Systems from Monash University.
John Roberts says key work for Archives New Zealand is continuing to implement the Public Records Act 2005 which includes the rollout of the Public Records Act Audit Programme and the implementation of the Digital Continuity Action Plan. The new work to build the Government Digital Archive will make a significant contribution to improving public agency recordkeeping.
Archives New Zealand continues to streamline service delivery through collaboration with both public and private sector agencies and to digitise public archives so more people can access these vital records from more locations through the internet. Smarter customer-focused services will help ensure public records are more readily available now and in the future.
