11/12/10 State Sector Management Bill passed
The National Library of New Zealand (Te Puna Mātauranga o Aotearoa) Amendment Act and the Public Records Amendment Act [formerly the State Sector Management Bill] passed their final readings in Parliament on 11 December, paving the way for the three departments to integrate on 1 February 2011. 22/11/10 Information about Deputy Chief Executive and General Manager positions
The Department of Internal Affairs is looking for Deputy Chief Executives (DCEs) and two other senior managers to lead the new Department. Link here to background information and job profiles.

12/11/2010 Final decisions on organisation structure released
Chief Executive Brendan Boyle has released the final decisions for the organisational structure of the Department of Internal Affairs to staff from Archives New Zealand, National Library of New Zealand and the Department of Internal Affairs.

This legal opinion was sought by the Chief Executive of the Department of Internal Affairs in July to ensure that the provisions of the State Sector Management Bill effectively provided for continued protection of the role and powers of the Chief Archivist and National Librarian, as intended. It has been made available following the waiving of legal privilege by the Attorney-General.

14/09/10 Consultation document released
Chief Executive Brendan Boyle has released a consultation document outlining proposed changes to the new Department’s organisational structure to staff from Archives New Zealand, National Library of New Zealand, and the Department of Internal Affairs. The document is also available to the public. Staff have until 5pm on Monday 4 October 2010 to provide their feedback on the proposed changes. No decisions will be made until the Chief Executive has considered submissions:

24/8/10 State Sector Amendment Bill introduced (Hon Tony Ryall, Beehive website)
This Bill has been introduced to the House of Representatives. The Bill is an omnibus Bill providing for machinery of government changes across several agencies including Archives New Zealand, National Library of New Zealand and the Department of Internal Affairs.

30/07/2010 Summary Analysis Report
The Summary Analysis Report describes the present state of the three integrating departments and will provide a base for the development of options for the design of the new Department.
