Music to My Ears

Posted by: un-pc lesbian

When number one daughter comes to visit she brings her external hard drive with her so she can give me her latest favourite tunes, bless. As I was busy transferring music the last time I started thinking of how, in a music sense, times have really changed.

When I was  child, and especially as a teenager, I would never have conceived of giving my music to my Mother to listen to, and in fact the only ‘modern’ song I can ever recall my Mother saying she liked was ‘The Bluebeat’ (Mother also was a mezzo soprano so was dead embarrassing when singing in church, cringe, no ones else’s Mothers sang like that!) However when first born visits a common phrase is “you gotta listen to this Mum”. I guess it’s to be expected from a child who would sing a Horace Andy Massive Attack tune to you when she was a pre schooler.

So, a bit of musical history for you, and a couple of firstborns favourites as my brain is to tired to finish the real post that I should finish writing.

The next one firstborn played incessantly last year

This one is my favourite off the album, my Xmas gift from said child. Love the voice.

And lastly another oldie. I only heard this tune for the first time last year and fell in love instantly. I am aware it is from a famous scene from a famous movie which I have never seen, and I’m quite happy to keep it that way.

Well, I didn’t like Amy Winehouse till I discovered her in my mums collection over summer, so now I’ve returned the favour by giving her Kasey Chambers, hopefully the exchange continues… it does feel a little strange talking culture with me mum, but her insights are truly gob-smacking!
