OUT@WORK - te whanau takataapui o Waikato
All workers have the right to a workplace that is free from discrimination and harassment. Yet it is only relatively recently, and after years of activism, that queer people have won these fundamental rights. Homosexual law reform in 1986 decriminalised homosexuality, but Part 2 of the Bill that protected lesbians, gay men and bisexuals from discrimination was defeated. It was only 10 years ago that Parliament voted to give lesbians, gay men and bisexuals the same rights as others in society.
OUT@WORK members are proud to be queer. Many of the issue's we face are the same as those for other workers. However, there are two specific areas of particular concern for queer workers:
* Discrimination and harassment at work
* Same-sex partners being excluded from partnership benefits.
We believe in an inclusive workplace and offer support and legal advice as well as confidentiality.
