The Department works in partnership with a number of other government agencies.
Memoranda of understanding and operational agreements guide our partnership relationships. These documents are reviewed and updated annually. There is frequent contact with partners through formal relationship meetings, and operational interactions at a regional level.
Civil Aviation Authority (CAA)
CAA administers the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992 for aircraft in operation.
CAA is a designated agency and has a Health and Safety in Employment Unit.
Maritime New Zealand
Maritime New Zealand administers the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992 for ships. It is a designated agency.
New Zealand Police
Some members of New Zealand Police's Commercial Vehicle Investigation Unit have been appointed as health and safety inspectors under section 29 of the HSE Act. New Zealand Police is not a designated agency.
Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC)
ACC and The Department have different roles but share an interest in work injury prevention.
Environmental Risk Management Authority (ERMA) New Zealand
The Department works closely with ERMA New Zealand to promote the effective management of hazardous substances in workplaces.
The Department is responsible for ensuring that the provisions of the Hazardous Substances and New Organisms Act 1996 are enforced in any place of work.
