Out There! Project

OUT THERE! was a Joint National Youth Development Project between the New Zealand AIDS Foundation (NZAF) and Rainbow Youth.

Out There aimed to enhance the wellbeing of queer youth within Aotearoa New Zealand by providing resources, running workshops, commissioning research and organising hui (conferences).

Due to multiple reasons Out There was unable to continue.

Several of Out There's key functions have been taken on by either Rainbow Youth or the NZAF where it aligns with their core functions.

Going forward Rainbow Youth will look to play a stronger support role for other queer youth organisations and groups around Aotearoa New Zealand. Where possible, create resources for distribution and strengthen networks.

Curious?, a support service delivered via texting for students questioning their emerging sexual or gender identity will continue to be looked after by NZAF. Also providing safe sex advice and information.

To contact Curious? send the word 'curious', then a space followed by any question in the body of a text message to the number 3535. Texts cost 20 cents.

What we mean when we say queer

A reclaimed word that represents sexuality and gender diversity. We use it to encompass lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, fa'afafine, and takataapui identities, as well as everyone in between and not sure. This word is used by many people, but it is also appreciated that it is not the preferred term for everybody.
