Consultation

Consultation for the Review of Risk Management and Safety in the Adventure and Outdoor Commercial Sectors

The closing date for returning questionnaires for the Review of Risk Management and Safety in the Adventure and Outdoor Commercial Sectors was Wednesday 16 December 2009. A summary of consultation responses is now available.

People who are interested in the adventure tourism industry were asked for their views on its safety and risk management practices. This was part of the consultation phase for the review of risk management and safety in the adventure and outdoor commercial sectors launched by Prime Minister John Key in September 2009.

The Department launched two questionnaires to gather people’s views. Responses are being used to inform the review as it works to identify any gaps in risk management and safety and then develops options and recommendations for the Minister of Labour. As well as questions about the business practices of adventure and outdoor commercial sector operators, the questionnaires asked for people’s views on:

  • the strengths and weaknesses of risk management and safety in the sector
  • what is working well
  • what could be improved, and
  • what are the six most important principles people believe underpin well managed risk.

Public Consultation

The Department welcomed your response to the questionnaires, one of which was for outdoor and commercial sector operators, associations and organisations, and the other for individuals

The public consultation phase of the review closed on 16 December 2009.
