*Queer - The youth of Aotearoa New Zealand reclaim this word to be used as a positive diversity affirming umbrella term to incorporate the (GLBTTFIAQ**) gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, takataapui, fa'afafine, intersex, asexual and queer identified people in our communities and families.

**GLBTTFIAQ - An extended form of GLBT or LGBT to incorporate the unique diversity of the Rainbow communities of Aotearoa New Zealand. GLBTTFIAQ is an acronym incorporating - gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, takataapui (maori cultural term), fa'afafine (samoan cultural term), intersex, asexual and queer people.

Te reo maori translation of our motto came from Kevin Haunui and Elizabeth Kerekere, Tiwhanawhana Trust, Wellington.
