One water and wastewater provider for the Auckland region.

(This is agreed in principle. Details yet to be confirmed by Government.)

Three types of water are supplied, treated or collected in Auckland - drinking water, wastewater and stormwater.

A single council controlled organisation of the Auckland Council will supply all drinking water and wastewater services in the Auckland region. It will fund water and wastewater infrastructure from charges based on water use. (Unless you live in Papakura where United Water will continue to supply this service.)

All assets will remain in public ownership.

Auckland Council will be the environmental watchdog for water quality and coastal water management for the whole region, establishing, monitoring and enforcing environmental standards. It will set policy for water, stormwater and wastewater management.
