Here's the Hero Party!

Posted in: Events
By Matt Akersten - 19th February 2009

What could be the weirdest Hero Party ever is on tomorrow night - and it's best described as a one-night festival of entertainment, with a huge cast of extraordinary characters.

Punters will be met at the door to Auckland's Transmission Room by fire performers and rainbow banners, and will descend down into the underground venue via a UV Wonderland.

The main Grand Central space will feature three lasers in the elaborate lighting setup, creating a carnival atmosphere. Over two dozen Klub Kid Dancers and performers will take to the stage and also mingle with punters, along with giant topless bunny rabbits! Burlesque performers The Vixons and live rock act Codeine Like Candy will also perform, and look out for fashion shows from designers Pattison Steele and DJ Station.

Hero's midnight show will be one to remember, with Wellington's Top Drag Queen Rhubarb Rouge and Stars in their Eyes' Cindy of Samoa and their guest performers.

There's an eclectic mix of DJs in the line-up for the main dance floor. Babes! Babes! Babes! from Sohomo spinning the tracks, along with Flirt's DJ Dee and DJ Flick, Urge bar's DJ Raj and Salvation party boy Donald Bennett.

From 11pm, brave partygoers can venture into the Dungeon Room through the leather curtain, which will feature grindy, down and dirty fetish performances. DJs Cat Cadaver and Sam Overload will set the mood. There's also a Flirt Space just for women, and VIP ticketholders can luxuriate in the Red Bull Arabian Lounge VIP Room, where several celebs will be popping into during the party.

Transform yourself at the Party into a beautiful work of art. Body art painters Samuel Wheeler of Nocturnal, Customs Maz Melhuish of Jaded Sphinx, Magdalena O'Conner from New Zealand Body Art Awards will be on hand providing free designs for anyone who have some flesh exposed.

Look out for the crew from Blessed Party Pills with free samples of legal party pill highs, and there's a photo booth to be snapped in - plus GayNZ.com will of course be there with our cameras… and we promise we'll have the Hero Party photos online the following day.

"This is your night to be outrageously glamorous, to escape the nine to five rat-race and just be someone fabulous," says Mistress of Ceremonies Candy Phloss.

Doors open at 9pm at the Transmission Room, (just off Queen Street on Mayoral Drive in central Auckland). Tickets are still available from the official Hero Party website (linked below), or DJ Station, the Women's Bookshop, and Erox stores around Auckland. Any remaining tickets will be sold on the door - but get in early or book online to avoid disappointment.

GayNZ.com wishes you a fun, fabulous and safe HERO PARTY 2009.
