Hamilton's Shine nightclub on sale for $90K
Hero to be wound up and remembered

Just hours after the revelation that Hamilton's only gay nightclub has been put up for sale, the city's drag cabaret restaurant has announced its Grande Finale party plans.

Goodbye Glamz!

After just over three years open, Glamz! founder Leone Dwyer, who put the business up for sale late last year, has decided not to renew the lease on the restaurant in Garden Place.

The 'Showdown' Grande Finale shows will happen each weekend in May, concluding with a final big bow-out on Saturday 16 May. Along with drink specials and prizes, Glamz! favourite performers are lined up to entertain diners.

One of the last special events also planned at the venue is a special Waikato Pink Womyns Ball on Saturday 2 May. Entertainers include Emmeline Pitcher performing as Cher, Dolly Parton and Tina Turner.

"We're going out with a bang," says Glamz! insider Heather Carnegie, "but we'll make sure the last shows are ones to remember."

Although Glamz! restaurant is closing, the brand will live on as Glamz! on the Run, as its most popular drag lip-syncing stars and live singers will be available to hire for parties and events anywhere in the Waikato.

With the imminent closure of Glamz! and Victoria Street's Shine nightclub now on the market, Guyz all-male sauna may soon be the Hamilton's only gay venue.
