Hamilton's Shine nightclub on sale for $90K
Hero to be wound up and remembered

The Waikato region's only LGBT nightclub is now up for sale on TradeMe, with an asking price of $90,000 or near offer.

Shine is described as a "trendy nightclub bar located in the heart of Hamilton's club district. Contemporary bar, furniture and fittings, colour changing LED decor lighting."

The venue became a gay community hub when the late Nicholas Morgan opened it as Venom nightclub in December 2006. Following his death the following year, new managers Dave Gibbs and Tristan Laing opened the completely refitted venue as Shine nightclub in October 2007.

Shine has hosted several popular events including Hamilton Pride Week parties, Miss Fag-Hag Waikato, Miss Drag Waikato and Mr. Gay Waikato competitions, and early evening drinks nights for women.

Shine will remain open as a gay venue until it is sold, with a 90's Pop Party planned for this Saturday night, events happening next month for Hamilton's V8 Weekend, and the Miss Drag Waikato pageant in May.

The TradeMe ad for Shine says: "This business has loads of unrealised potential. Currently operates only 15 hours per week so plenty of room for expansion.

"Current setup allows for fast, easy rebrand."

If Shine is sold and does not reopen as a gay venue, the Waikato region will lose its only LGBT nightclub. Other gay-owned venues in central Hamilton include all-male sex-on-site venue Guyz, and drag cabaret restaurant Glamz!, which is also on the market.
