What to do on Waiheke?
Anyone have any idea of some gay friendly places?
Any scenic recommendations?

As always, I find tips from you guys much more reliable than a google search =P

If it's a nice day? Swim - Onetangi Bay was awesome last time we were there.

Apparently there are vineyards there as well...

If you can afford it, book a table at Stoneyridge or Mudbrick for lunch.  The view over the vineyard is fantastic at Stoneyridge and the sea views to die for at Mudbrick - bliss!

As a Waiheke Islander I would advise to just explore the island, but here are my recommendations. There are no gay venues or gay accommodation as such, but I do not know of any place on Waiheke that is not gay-friendly.

BEACHES
There are two nude beaches, which means they are extremely gay-friendly.
One is at Palm Beach on the left hand side, past the rocks. It's easy to get to, even at high tide. An alternative route to it is from the top of Cory Road down a scenic walk. It's very popular in Summer with all genders, ages and body shapes. It basically functions as the gay meeting place on the island: free, easy, BYO, and go for a swim too. Bring a sun umbrella because there is very little shade.
The other one is at the western end of Onetangi Beach. It's a little trickier at high tide to get to or from but not impossible. It's actually the nicer of the two as it has a sandier beach and lovely pohutukawas to sit under in the shade. It's much quieter as it's much less well-known.

VINEYARDS
Plenty of them have tasting rooms and some do lunch and dinners. My favourites: Obsidian (tastings); Passage Rock (excellent cuisine) and Goldwater (tastings and lunch)
There are vineyard tours available, check with the island information centre when you arrive.

PLACES TO EAT
Thymes Tables Surfdale (set menu - superb food and affordable); Stefano Pizzas Surfdale (best outside Tuscany); Skinny Sardine Oneroa (tapas bar); Get Stuffed Cafe & Tea Rooms Ostend (gay owned/operated); Palm Beach Club House (fine dining)

PLACES TO DRINK
Sandbar Oneroa (DJ and live bands on Fridays)

OTHER PLACES TO VISIT
Stony Batter tunnels and gun emplacements (http://www.gotowaiheke.co.nz/virtual_tour/stony_batter.htm); Ostend Market (Saturday mornings) great to meet the locals

Oh please, there are so much better things to do than sleep.

Go see Raewyn or Carole at Woolworths Waiheke.

Is Island Queen still open in Oneroa?! They did the best pizzas, that or Mangrove Takeaways.

Thank you for all the suggestions.!
Uroskin - Thanks for the local knowledge, much appreciated =]
I might pass on the Palm Beach Cock Sucking society [being a lesbian and all], however I do hope someone found that part of the information useful for when they visit Waiheke!!

Lumeire - Mudbrick will probably be stretching the budget this time round, but I have heard fabulous things about it.

We will definately be bringing togs, I hope the weather is okay.

We're staying at a eco place called One7Five, anyone heard of it ?
