"... Anne Sophie Duprels was a radiant Jenufa, soaring with the purest lyricism..." - NEW ZEALAND HERALD
You could be excused for not knowing Jenůfa - for Janáček's operatic tour de force has only been performed once in New Zealand. The NBR New Zealand Opera is proud to be involved in bringing this masterpiece back to New Zealand.
This famous Glyndebourne Festival production premiered in 1989 and was described as "one of the greatest theatre experiences in the entire history of Glyndebourne." Ever since, Jenůfa's ability to deeply engage audiences has earned its reputation as an opera of formidable power!
A stellar cast has been secured headed by soprano Anne Sophie Duprels as Jenůfa, who wowed New Zealand audiences in our 2006 production of Faust. Also starring tenor Tom Randle as Laca and soprano Margaret Medlyn as Kostelnička. Wyn Davies, The NBR New Zealand Opera's Director of Music, takes the baton.
