The Girls of the Games

Posted in: Events
By Kitten Power - 8th August 2008

It involved hours of painstaking research, but Kitten Power has now decided on her Top Ten Hottest Women of the 2008 Olympics. Go girls go!

NZ Hockey Player Gemma Flynn

This 18-year-old Tauranga-born Striker has a promising career ahead. This will be her first Olympics.

French Sprinter Christine Arron

Arron has run the third fastest time for the 100m in history, but some consider her the fastest legal runner of all time.

Russian Tennis Player Maria Sharapova

Sharapova has won three Grand Slam singles titles, and won Wimbledon in 2004 – she was 17!

Australian Basketballer Lauren Jackson

Jackson is widely considered to be the best Australian female basketball player of all time and one of the best players in the world.

NZ Basketballer Jillian Harmon

Born in New York and raised in Oregon, Jillian declared her eligibility for the Tall Ferns through her Kiwi mother Julie.

Chinese Diver Guo Jingjing

Jingjing represented China in Athens, earning a gold medal in the 3 metre women's springboard and synchronised springboard. She says she'll retire after the Beijing Games.

Australian Swimmer Amanda Beard

This gold-medal winning swimmer has modeled for FHM, Sports Illustrated and Playboy, and has also campaigned against the use of fur in fashion.

Norwegian Handballers Katya Nyberg and Gro Hammerseng

Yes – Nyberg and Hammerseng are a couple, and have joined other Norwegian athletes in an Amnesty International campaign for human rights in China.

Serbian Tennis Player Ana Ivanovich

Ivanovich is the current world number one on the Women's Tennis Association Tour. Her inspiration to begin playing was Monica Seles.

USA Soccer Player Natasha Kai

Kai is openly lesbian – and we defy any lesbian not to fall for that stomach! She's one of the most famous athletes Hawaii has ever produced, and is known for having 19 tattoos.

The best of luck at the games girls – we'll be watching… and drooling!
