Celebration: Auckland's Mid-Winter blow-out!

Posted in: Events
By Celebration 2008 - 30th June 2008

Ready for her 1:30am show: Tess Tickle
Auckland's 4th annual big gay mid-winter blow-out will be breaking in virgin gay venue The Transmission Room this Saturday 5 July with a full scale sound, light and staging extravaganza.

Celebration 08 will feature a spectacular 1.30am show by the Dreamgirls of Drag – Buckwheat, Tess Tickle and Venus Mantrapp – as well as appearances from the rest of New Zealand's drag royalty throughout the night.

Presented by Kim Crawford Wines, Celebration 08 also features the hottest and hardest-working DJs in town, cutting loose with a diverse variety of groovy dancefloor sounds…

Huggable hunk Bevan Keys has been warming hearts and dancefloors with his signature house sound since he first played at the iconic Alfies and Staircase nightclubs back in the late '80s! Over the years, Bevan has provided the soundtrack to Auckland's most popular clubs, bringing smiles to dancers and listeners alike, with his sublime mix of contemporary house tracks and old school classics. You can hear Bevan every Friday from 10am-2pm on his Key to the Groove radio show on George FM.

Karn Hall never disappoints when it comes to bringing sexy back to the DJ booth. The DJ/model/TV presenter/radio host covers all the bases with his fresh and tasty mix of eclectic beats. Karn plays around all the Auckland hot-spots – including Hero and Celebration 07 – and he's back for the '08 by very popular demand! Check him out on the Karn Hall Drive show, Wednesdays from 4-6pm on George FM.

DJ Mauri is Urge Bar's long-term lovable resident DJ. Renowned on both sides of the ditch for his impeccable selection of groovy homo house, Mauri's discerning ears are hard at work every day as the Real Groovy Records dance music maestro.

Donald Bennett is possibly our hardest-serving gay DJ, having been working gay party-goers into a sweat since 1988! Donald has played at nearly every major gay dance event since, and his many emphatic fans never fail to get a dancefloor pumping.

Wanda L'Amour has been New Zealand's reigning Drag DJ Supreme since sometime in the mid-late 20th Century. The retro originator returns with a handbag packed full of dance, pop, funk and retro surprises. Miss Wanda L'Amour will work the floor!

Karl Moser is the Celebration resident, being the only DJ to appear at all four parties. When he's not out playing at Mardi Gras, Hero and queer events around the country, this much-loved DJ/producer can usually be found knob-twiddling in his Grey Lynn recording studio.

Celebration 08 tickets are on sale now for $35 (+ booking fees) from Urge, Dorothy's Sister, Marvel Menswear, DJ Station and iTicket ( or phone 0508 iticket).
