Grants only issued to sports teams and clubs which are formally established and/or legally constituted. Grants issued for actual and reasonable travel expenses for groups participating in tournaments with kindred groups, sports equipment, playing uniforms, costs of coaching amateur players only and ground hire. No grant shall be issued to any player or team competing on a professional basis. Maintenance or upgrade of bona fide community and/or amateur sporting facilities. 2. Donations to schools. recognised non-profit cultural and charitable organisations (e.g. Plunket or Red Cross, operatic society, safer community group) within the local community to further the objectives of these groups.
3. To provide for the conduct of race meetings for the benefit of the public and to promote and control those meetings, including:
(a) the provision and maintenance of grounds, buildings and facilities where these are primarily used for race meetings;
(b) stake money for any types of races;
(c) the provision and maintenance of on-course facilities for horses and greyhounds, trainers and jockeys;
but excluding the following:
(d) payments, other than stake money, to horse or greyhound owners or trainers;
(e) payments to professional jockeys;
(f) activities or expenses in connection with the breeding of racehorses or greyhounds.

The Pelorus Trust may distribute funds through charitable, sporting or other community based organisations. Funds may be distributed to, but not limited to, any cultural, philanthropic, charitable, sporting, educational or any other purpose that benefits the community or a section of it.

Grants shall benefit only amateur sport where the aim shall be to assist participants to play their sport, improve their skills and generally participate in a healthy recreational activity. Grants may benefit the sport of racing through the provision of facilities, grounds maintenance and rental, stakes and the like. No grants shall benefit professional sportspersons to play their sport or racing owners, trainers or jockeys.

Grants to charitable and not-for-profit community groups shall generally be fore the purposes of health, welfare and the relief of poverty, for the benefits of the arts, culture or kapa haka, or for community assistance groups such as rescue helicopters.

Grants to schools or other educational institutes shall be for the provision of equipment or services that foster continuous learning and youth development.

The Pelorus Trust may apply funds to any of the purposes outlined above that are consistent with the terms of their deed of trust.

Examples may include, but not limited to: the purchase of land and the development and maintenance of sporting or other facilities that benefit the community; the establishment of academic or sporting scholarships for young persons that are fair, open and equitably assessed; or, the payment of capitation or other levies to any not-for-profit national body or association.

Promotion of national age group tournaments for Primary, intermediate and secondary schools as well as other junior, amateur and non-professional players and teams.
Costs associated with outfitting junior, amateur and non-professional sporting teams with actual and necessary sporting equipment, actual and reasonable coaching expenses for amateur and non-professional players and actual, reasonable and necessary travel and accommodation expenses to and from tournaments.
Promotion of any particular sport, through the provision of actual and necessary playing and training equipment and actual and reasonable travel and accommodation expenses for children, coaches and supervisors (whose primary role is to supervise these children) while away competing in recognised tournaments.
Assistance to sporting adjuncts within junior and amateur teams, local clubs and other non-professional representative teams through the provision of various sporting equipment unique to the sport. Such equipment may include a players playing and training apparel, protective equipment, boots, running shoes, mouth guards, cones, tackle pads and bags, instruction booklets, posters, stickers and other club equipment such as stop watches, weight lifting equipment and the like. Note: This excludes dress uniforms and payments for professional sporting teams and/or players directly or indirectly.
To assist bona fide organisations in the community such as kindergartens, schools, youth groups and recognised charities such as The Salvation Army and the like, with funding for specific projects or purposes, or the running of community events.
To assist anti problem gaming and anti drink driving organisations and initiatives.
To assist cultural pursuits such as youth orchestras.
To provide for the funding of research, projects and equipment that improves the general health and well being of New Zealand communities. The results of any research are to be generally available for the public good.
