The Peace and Disarmament Education Trust (PADET)
The objective of the Peace and Disarmament Education Trust is to "advance education and thereby promote international peace, arms control and disarmament." The Trust makes two types of grants: one-off grants and PADET scholarships.
The Trust was established as a charitable trust on 3 May 1988, with a capital of $1,500,000, money received from France in recognition of events surrounding the destruction of the vessel "Rainbow Warrior". Each year, the Trust distributes most of the interest accrued to appropriate projects. Read a short history of the Rainbow Warrior at the Greenpeace website.
Applications are considered by the Public Advisory Committee on Disarmament and Arms Control (PACDAC), who make recommendations to the Trustee (the Secretary for Internal Affairs), for the final selection.
